If you stay with somebody having COVID-19, Quebec won’t ask you to isolate

Quebec public health officials have declared the easing of more general health measures this weekend as crucial health needles, such as hospitalizations, persist in trending below. 

As of Saturday, the exact day that other pandemic limitations are being raised, people who come into intimate contact with an individual who tested positive for COVID-19 will no longer have to quarantine at home for five days, provided they are not showing any signs.

They are advised to bypass infecting others over ten days following contact by watching their symptoms, avoiding close contact with others, wearing a mask, and avoiding moving to places where they ought to remove their masks, such as bars and restaurants. 

Dr. Luc Boileau, temporary director of public health for Quebec, declared Thursday, basing his decision on the epidemiological problem, which, he said, “lets us be optimistic.”

Quebecers do not need to quarantine after staying with covid infected people

Boileau said that better days are coming at a press conference, but “the outbreak isn’t over.” 

While hospitalizations and intensive-care department admissions are increasing — with fewer than 1,200 beds occupied by COVID-19 patients — he stated that Omicron and its sub-variant BA.2 should be taken seriously.

“The virus is still there, and it’s doing harm every day, especially to the most vulnerable,” said Boileau. He stated BA.2 — circulating widely in Denmark and South Africa — maybe 40 percent more infectious than Omicron. 

He said Quebecers must assist protect the most vulnerable, including immunocompromised individuals, seniors, and those with chronic diseases. He suggested people persist in washing their hands and wearing masks where needed.
